We started out with VBS. I had the privilege of leading a group of new 1st graders (including Miss Hannah). It was so neat to see the children learn praise songs, experience hands-on learning of Bible stories and to see all the energy for our Lord! Luke still talks about his teacher, Mrs. Kat.
We had some celebrations - Father's day, a 6 year old birthday girl and July 4th...
We decided to take swimming lessons from a private instructor this year. Luke missed the first two lessons due to a fever, so getting him in the pool with "Ms. Annie" led to MAJOR seperation anxiety. He cried for me for almost all of his lessons. :( Hannah learned a lot and it made all of us more comfortable letting her swim unassisted. Can't help but chuckle at Luke's expression here...a love/hate relationship with swimming lessons.
In July we met my parents in Arlington for a weekend. We hung out at the hotel pool, saw Toy Story 3 and tried to make it thru a Ranger game. The heat and the toddler who wouldn't sit still made for an early exit. But it was fun to be with Nana and Gramps and get away for a few days.
Michael and I spent more time at the Lifetime Fitness this summer. We took the kids swimming a lot. Hannah LOVED the water slide and Luke was as happy as a clam running around in the zero depth pool, throwing rockets and splashing all the way. Hannah tried rock climbing and loved it! She's such a little monkey.
I signed Hannah for many of the special events at church b/c they were so convenient and affordable. She took a little cooking class, attended a dress up tea party, and was part of the library "book worms".
We also took several outings to the Allen public library. They have a great little summer reading program where the kids get to select a book once they turn in their book log. Hannah, of course, picked out a Junie B Jones book. Luke enjoyed his first puppet show and rather than reading books he played with bead toys and puzzles. Typical Luke.
For Luke's summer enrichment, I signed him up for Kindermusik. He went on a zoo train every week to learn about the animals and play all kinds of learning games with musical instruments. Although he often tried to "go bye bye", he did enjoy it for the most part. I think any exposure to music and movement is great for his language development and reception skills.
Hannah also attended a camp thru the school district themed around books by the author, Laura Numeroff. She continued her gymnastics at ASI on the team. In August she went to a learning camp twice a week to get her geared back up for school.
We had fun around the house, especially when the weather reached the triple digits. This photo is from "Make your own pizza night". Luke loved eating the "peppaonis". What a stinker!
To end the summer, the kids went to stay with their grandparents in Waco for the weekend while we toured Boston. Post coming soon!
All of this fun even wore out high energy Hannah....
