Halloween and more Halloween

I am trying to be more positive when it comes to holidays and festivities. But this year Halloween was not on my priority list. Why did I dread it? Oh let's see...spending $$ on a costume they only wear once, the candy that floods the house and the temptation it brings the kiddos, the blood and gore that isn't appropriate for young children. Ahhh...well by 10/31 I was over it and looking back wish I had made more of it, but well....it hasn't exactly been the best 1-2 months around here. :) I'll do better at Christmas.

Trick or treating was great - we left early and returned home early. The amount of candy that came home and consumed was less this year. I'm actually laughing to myself b/c the kids have forgotten all about the stash left in the pantry. :) We went around with our next door neighbor, Arshad and his dad, and saw a lot of neighborhood/school friends. Hannah collected change for Unicef as part of a mission for Mission Possible Kids at church. She did great and collected over $5.00. She chose to be Daphne from Scooby Doo (her idea carried over from last year). We had some drama with the wig. Poor thing envisioned it to be perfect and smooth the way Daphne appears on the cartoon. I tried everything to make her happy even flat ironing the bangs downward....she got over it but wasn't quite satisfied. Needless to say we will not have a costume with that accessory again. Luke was a dragon - loved the green color and the back - one of my favorite costumes we've had so far.

My sister runs The Little Gym in McKinney so we headed up there for some games and playtime. Luke couldn't get enough of the giant slide and the basketball area. Hannah was on her own and it was no surprise she was hitting up all the staff for extra goodies -improving and refining those innate negotiating skills.




Here are the kids at our traditional costume family night. Jenna joined the group this year. She's wearing Hannah's first costume - the resemblance between them as babies is pretty amazing....must be the hair.

The Friday before Halloween we went to a play date party at my neighbor's casa. As usual, Mariah went all out - she makes us moms who are averagely (is that a word?) creative look like amateurs. The kids made a spider lollipop (below) and played a "wrap the mummy" game. Luke mostly struggled with sharing the power tools and kept attempting to cross the monkey bars solo. That boy keeps me on my toes lately.
