I really wish I could bottle up and re-live the first few weeks after each of my children's births. I have such fond memories of those early days.
In the hospital after Ryan was born, I came down with a spinal headache from my epidural. 36 hours after he was born, the pain intensified and it got to where several times I couldn't sit up without throwing up. I was given a blood patch when helped, but only for about 12 hours. The first night home with Ryan I was still suffering and knew it would be impossible to let the headache ride the course and heal on its own within 5-10 days. I had a baby to feed and 2 other kids to care for. So the next day I returned to the anesthesiologist for a second blood patch (they inserted more blood this time) and it did the trick. After that, I was home free and able to enjoy every second of newborn baby bliss. After a day or two of the worst pain I've ever had, I had a new and even greater appreciation of my new child. There is seriously nothing better in life than those baby noises and the bonding that comes with nursing and cuddling.
Here are some of my favorite pics of our sweet new addition his first few weeks of life....

First Bath - 4 days old. Ryan was obviously pleased when Daddy massaged his head with the hair brush they gave us at the hospital.
One tired, but very proud Mamma
