December 19th

December 19, 2007...I'll never forget that exciting and emotional night that our first son was born. My contractions came on quickly and it was obvious labor had started. After running around the house packing a forgotten overnight bag for Hannah and grabbing our stuff, I was in active labor when we got the hospital around 7 pm. 4 hours later he arrived only to be whisked off to the NICU because of breathing difficulties. After a crazy, uncertain 48 hours he became strong enough for me to nurse him and his pulse oxygen levels improved, infection and heart defects ruled out...baby boy just swallowed fluid and had a hard time adjusting to life outside of the womb. Well, he's loving life now!

We went out to celebrate with "Kids Eat Free" night at Tin Star in Frisco. Hannah got Luke a gum ball machine he spotted at Kroger and had been wanting for months. We came home and had pirate cupcake leftovers and gave him his big gift - a treasure chest full of dress up clothes. He hasn't worn them much since that night - a short lived dress up phase, I guess. Bummer - I worked really hard to find the perfect Superman, Buzz, and Jedi costumes at the resale shops.

Luke brings our family so much joy. He loves bowling and skee ball, ice cream, the Wii, games on the iPhone, playing sports outside, bigger boys, wrestling with Daddy, making marble runs, Dr. Suess books, figuring out how things work, music (especially the songs Paradise by ColdPlay and Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People - who knew?), making forts, his siblings and going to school. Three words that describe Luke at age 4 are: Sweet, Quirky and Inquisitive.
